Description
Indications
- Otitis media, LRTI, Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis, UTI, Skin/Skin structure infections.
Administration
- May administer with or without food. May be taken w/ meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindication
- Hypersensitivity to cefaclor or other cephalosporins or any component of the formulation. Refer to manufacturer labeling for further detail.
Common side-effects
- Rash, Vomiting, Allergic reaction, Nausea, Diarrhea
Precautions
- Use with caution in penicillin-sensitive patients since cross-sensitivity among beta-lactam antibiotics has been clearly documented and may occur in up to 10% of patients with a history of allergy to penicillin. In case of an allergic reaction to cefalexin, the drug should be discontinued.
- Serious acute hypersensitivity reactions require immediate emergency treatment with epinephrine. Oxygen, intravenous antihistamines, corticosteroids, and airway management, including intubation, should also be instituted.
