Description
Indications
- Hyperuricaemia; Chemotherapy induced hyperuricaemia
Dosage and Administration
- Adult Initial: 40mg once daily, may increase to 80mg once daily in patients who do not achieve a serum uric acid level <6 mg/dL after 2 weeks.
- The dose may be increased up to 120mg once daily if clinically indicated, or as prescribed by the physician.
- Administer with or without meals, may be taken without regard to antacid use.
Contraindications
- Concomitant use with azathioprine, mercaptopurine. Patient with a history of hypersensitivity reaction to allopurinol; major CV disease (e.g. MI, stroke, unstable angina), ischaemic heart disease or CHF; thyroid disorders.
Common side-effects
- MI; Stroke; Gout flares; Increased serum AST/ALT; Increased TSH; CV death; Hepatic failure.
Precaution
- This drug may cause dizziness, somnolence, paraesthesia and blurred vision; do not drive or operate machinery, if affected.
