Description
Indications
- Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection; Pneumonia-community acquired; Sexually transmitted infections; Respiratory tract infections; Skin and soft tissue infections.
Dosage and Administration
- Children
- Usual dose: 10mg/kg/day, orally for 3 days.
- Alternate dose: 10mg/kg/day on day 1, followed by 5mg/kg/day from day 2 – day 5, or as directed by the physician.
- May administer with or without food. May be taken with meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Direction for Reconstitution
- Tap the bottle to loosen the powder contents prior to reconstitution.
- Add 9mL previously boiled and cool water for reconstitution and shake it for at least 2 minutes.
- Shake well before withdrawing each dose.
- The reconstituted solution should be used within 5 days of preparation.
Contraindication
- Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics, or any component of the formulation. Refer to manufacturer labeling for further details.
Common side-effects
- Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Skin rash
