Description

Indications

• As an immunomodulator for the management of patients with immunodepression suffering from viral infections such as subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE), varicella, herpes simplex type 1 & 2
• In the management of recurrent herpes simplex type 1 & 2
• As an adjunct in the treatment of genital warts
• Sclerosing panencephalitis

Dosage and Administration

• Usual Recommended Dose (based on 50mg/kg body weight/day)
  • Birth to 6 months: 1mL, every 4 – 6 hours
  • 7 to 12 months: 1.5mL, every 4 – 6 hours
  • 1 to 2 years: 2mL, every 4 – 6 hours
  • 3 to 6 years: 3mL, every 4 – 6 hours
  • 7 to 12 years: 5mL, every 4 – 6 hours
  • Adults: 20mL, every 6 – 8 hours
• Duration of Treatment: 5 to 14 days
• Or, as prescribed by a physician.
• May administer with or without food.

Contraindications

• Refer to manufacturer labeling for further detail.

Common side-effects

• Transient nausea and vomiting, epigastric discomfort; rash; reversible increase in serum and urinary uric acid
