Description
Indications
- Amebiasis; Bacterial vaginosis; Intra-abdominal infection; Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID); Skin and soft tissue infection.
Dosage and Administration
- 40 – 45 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 6 -8 hours daily for 5 – 7 days or as directed by the physician.
- May administer with food to minimize GI upset.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to metronidazole and other nitroimidazoles or any component of the formulation. Refer to manufacturer labeling for further detail.
Common side-effects
- Headache, Dryness in mouth, Nausea, Glossitis, Metallic taste, Stomatitis, Muscle pain
